The CMI congregation was founded in 1831 at Mannanam, Kottayam Dt., Kerala. It is the first Catholic religious congregation in India. St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the founder of the congregation was a Holy man ahead of his times. He laid foundation for all modern and progressive fields of activities like quality education, health care, and social upliftment of all humans beyond cast and creed, to which the members of the congregation engage all over the world.
